Through our three carefully planned and thoughtfully crafted initiatives, utilizing research and best practices and the arts to undergird each, we are touching students and individuals’ lives across boundaries, cultures, and countries, particularly across the African Diaspora.

In 2017, the World Education Research Association (compilation of the leading education associations globally) authorized the establishment of an African Diaspora International Research Network (ADIRN) that enables ADC to select and work with leading scholars globally to establish cutting edge research on the African Diaspora.

In 2016, the African Diaspora Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) created the Annual Henry M. Levin African Diaspora SIG Lecture, honoring Dr. Levin, William Heard Kilpatrick Professor of Economics and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and Past Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) President, for his unwavering commitment to equality and social justice.

Our Emerging Scholar Award is named in honor of Dr. Ernest Morrell to highlight his lifelong work as a highly accomplished educator and scholar with great impact on the field of African Diaspora Studies. As one of the founders of the ADSIG, Dr. Morrell’s outstanding leadership gave rise to the vision and conception of this award. He currently serves as one of our honorary advisors and was featured as the first ADSIG Levin Lecturer to rave reviews! His leadership has also contributed to the founding of the African Diaspora International Research Network (AD-IRN) through the World Education Research Association and the African Diaspora Consortium (ADC). As ADC Chair of the Planning and Advisory Committee, he leads research and best practice initiatives, and he co-led the development of the historic African Diaspora Content to be incorporated into the College Board’s AP Seminar. The naming of this award in Dr. Morrell’s honor perfectly captures his scholarly and best practice influence on the field and new scholars of African Diaspora Studies.
