Dr. José Vicente

Dr. José Vicente, ADC Distinguished Counselor for Latin American Diaspora
Relations
, is the founder and President of the Instituto Afrobrasileiro de Ensino Superior (Afro-Brazilian Higher Education Institute).

He is also the dean of the Zumbi dos Palmares University. Inspired by American Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), he founded Zumbi in 2003. In 10 years the university has grown from 300 students to roughly two thousand.

Dr. Vicente is a lawyer, sociologist, and a member of the Brazilian Presidential Council for Social and Economic Development.

Dr. Vicente has a Master’s in Business Administration and a Doctorate in Education from the Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba.

Dr. Vicente sits on the Board of Directors of various organizations in Brazil, most notably Afrobrás, the AfroBrazilian Society for Social and Cultural Development, a non-governmental organization which he founded, that works toward the socioeconomic development of Afro-Brazilians.
